Smile COM Programming with Win32 or MFC/ATL?

My question is that what is a COM component?
What is a COM server?
How COM works?

Which types of application we can create with COM?

How can I create a COM component with raw C++ and Win32 API with BCC32.exe or CL.exe?

I am waiting for a good answer!
